At least 13 individuals have been reported as killed in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State. The conflict, believed to have arisen due to the establishment of a new chiefdom, resulted in the burning of numerous houses in one of the communities.
Reliable sources informed DAILY POST that besides the mentioned casualties and property destruction, a considerable number of individuals, predominantly women and children, have been displaced.
When contacted for verification, the state police command stated that "only two casualties were recorded." The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed this on Saturday and mentioned that three units of mobile policemen have been deployed to the affected areas. Additionally, a contingent of soldiers has been stationed in the local government council.
It should be noted that the state governor recently authorized the creation of nine more chiefdoms across the state. This development has continued to provoke tensions within the region.
