Hopeful Sudanese Look to Jeddah Talks for Resolution between warring Factions

Sudanese citizens are placing their hopes on discussions taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between representatives of the conflicting factions. The objective of these talks is to put an end to the ongoing violence, which has resulted in the loss of numerous lives and forced a large number of people to flee their homes. However, there is little indication that a long-term solution will be achieved in the near future.

At present, there is no information available regarding the progress of the talks, which commenced on Saturday. The participating parties consist of the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who have expressed their intention to address issues related to a ceasefire and humanitarian concerns such as ensuring safe passage. Unfortunately, numerous ceasefires have been violated since the conflict first erupted on April 15.

On Monday, Army Chief Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan stated that the army is actively pursuing a peaceful resolution. However, he emphasized that discussions regarding a lasting settlement can only occur "once a permanent ceasefire is achieved in Khartoum."

"Our belief is that a peaceful solution is the most suitable approach to address this crisis," he added.
