According to a report by Wole Mosadomi for Vanguard news in Minna, Niger State has once again been targeted by terrorists who abducted the village head and 49 others. The incident took place in the Fugge community of the Rijau local government area. The majority of those abducted were women and children, with a few males also taken. Additionally, the terrorists rustled numerous cattle belonging to the villagers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists arrived at the village on motorcycles and began firing into the air to instill fear among the residents. Meanwhile, fighter jets were spotted circling the area, likely in an attempt to locate the terrorists and potentially launch an attack on them.
According to a reliable source in the region, the fighter jets eventually managed to strike the terrorists. "During the attack, the fighter jets descended upon the terrorists while they were moving with the abductees, resulting in the death of several terrorists and the rustled cattle," the source stated. The aftermath of the airstrike revealed the bodies of some terrorists and injured or deceased cows in the forest.
Following the attack, the surviving terrorists fled to their hideouts located in the forest bordering Niger State and Kebbi State. It has been reported that the terrorists have since made contact with the families of the abductees, demanding fuel, motorcycles, and money as ransom for their release.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, for comment were unsuccessful, as stated by the Vanguard news report.
