Suspected Bandits Attack Sokoto Communities, Leaving 37 Dead and Several Injured

 

According to reports, suspected bandits launched attacks on three communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. These attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of 37 residents, with several others sustaining injuries.

The disclosure was made by Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf, a community leader, who stated that the incident occurred on Saturday night. The affected communities were identified as Raka, Raka Dutse, and Filin Gawa.

Alhaji Bashar Kalenjeni, the immediate past chairman of the local government, confirmed the attack and provided further details. He mentioned that 18 individuals lost their lives in Raka, 17 in Filin Gawa, and two in Raka Dutse.

Kalenjeni also shared the unfortunate information that attempts to bury the deceased were disrupted by the bandits, who returned to the area. Consequently, the bodies remained unburied as of Sunday morning.

The bandits allegedly targeted and killed the villagers in anger due to their refusal to pay a levy imposed by the bandits upon the entire community.

Additionally, there are reports of missing villagers, and the community is awaiting the assistance of security operatives to conduct a search and facilitate the proper burial of the deceased.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa'i, were unsuccessful as he did not answer his calls.
