The Iranian Border Police Command reported a tragic incident on Saturday, revealing that an Iranian border guard lost his life while two others sustained injuries during a clash with Taliban forces in a border region.
The statement identified the fallen soldier as Mohammad Mahdi Ahmadi, a young conscript serving in the Border Police as part of the compulsory military service. The skirmish occurred at the Sasouli Police station, operating under the Zabol border regiment in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.
The Police confirmed that two additional Iranian border guards were wounded in the clash, underscoring that the Iranian forces inflicted significant losses on the Taliban. Iranian Police Deputy Commander General Qassem Rezaei condemned the actions of the Taliban, accusing them of disregarding the principles of good neighborliness and violating international regulations. He explained that the Taliban used various weapons to open fire on the Sasouli Police station. The Iranian border guards reacted with bravery and issued warnings in accordance with border protocols. However, the Taliban resumed their attack a few hours later.
The deputy commander emphasized that the Iranian border guards have been instructed to respond firmly to any border violation. He held the current rulers of Afghanistan accountable for their misguided actions, which defy international principles.
Iran stated that the skirmish occurred in a border region between the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan in Iran and the Nimruz province in Afghanistan, specifically in areas surrounding Sasouli, Hatam, and Makaki villages.
The statement clarified that Iranian military forces employed light weapons, crew-served weapons, and artillery during the skirmish but denied the use of missiles.
