A 25-year-old mother has been apprehended by the police in Kano State on suspicion of kidnapping her six-year-old daughter in Madobi Local Government area. The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, confirmed the arrest during a parade of suspects, which included armed robbers, kidnappers, and drug dealers in Kano metropolis and surrounding local government areas.
According to reports, the incident occurred on May 8, 2023, when Kabiru Shehu, a resident of Sharada Quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government, reported that his ex-wife, 25-year-old Rahma Sulaiman, had called him to inform him of their daughter's kidnapping. Rahma claimed that unknown individuals had contacted her, demanding a ransom of three million naira (N3,000,000:00k) for the safe release of their daughter.
In response to the report, the police swiftly initiated efforts to rescue the victim and apprehend the culprits. As a result of a follow-up investigation, the police successfully rescued the child in Madobi Local Government area and arrested the divorced wife, Rahma Sulaiman.
The commissioner explained that during questioning, the suspect confessed to planning the kidnapping, taking her daughter to a hideout, and making the ransom demand. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be brought before the court to face legal proceedings.
