Fatal Clash Between Amotekun and Traders in Ekiti Leads to Casualties

A clash between officers of the Amotekun Corps and traders at the bustling Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, reportedly resulted in the alleged shooting death of one individual. The incident unfolded as the Amotekun officers attempted to relocate the traders from Atikankan to a newly designated area at Agric Olope, as directed by the government.

Tension escalated when some traders resisted the relocation efforts and confronted the Amotekun officers, leading to an exchange of violence. One of the officers allegedly opened fire, causing injuries among the traders. In retaliation, reports indicate that two officers of the corps were seriously assaulted by the traders.

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the clash and disclosed that four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident. According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, upon receiving a distress call regarding the clash between Amotekun operatives and a group of agitated youths in the Atikankan area, the police promptly deployed personnel to restore peace and prevent further harm. Two individuals sustained severe injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Dare Ogundare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
