Four employees of ZEFA Microfinance Bank have been apprehended following the tragic death of Vivian Omo, a 50-year-old woman who was pushed by one of the staff members. The bank is located in the Abule Ijoko Lemode area of Ifo local government area in Ogun state. According to the statement provided by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the incident was confirmed on Sunday, and the arrests were made by the state police command on Wednesday. The suspects, identified as Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi, and Femi Oloko, were taken into custody.
Oyeyemi explained that the trouble began when the bank employees visited the debtor's residence to collect payment for a loan taken by the deceased's husband. However, they were informed that the husband was not at home. Unsatisfied with the explanation given by Vivian Omo, the bank staff decided to seize and remove all the electronic items from the house. The deceased resisted this action, leading to a struggle between her and the bank employees. Tragically, during the altercation, one of the employees pushed Vivian Omo, causing her to fall unconscious. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The daughter of the deceased promptly reported the incident to the Agbado divisional headquarters, which prompted CSP Awoniyi Adekunle, the DPO Agbado division, to lead his team of detectives to the scene. It was there that the four bank staff members, Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi, and Femi Oloko, were apprehended. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the morgue at Ifo General Hospital for an autopsy.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The Commissioner also issued a warning to loan agencies, urging them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands when recovering debts, as anyone caught engaging in such acts will be arrested and prosecuted.
