The police in Taraba State have officially confirmed an explosive blast that occurred at a drinking joint in Jalingo, the state capital.
This confirmation follows an attack in Takum Local Government Council earlier, where armed bandits caused the death of a driver, burned two pickup vans, and killed cattle.
The Command's Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that it took place Sunday night in Jika Doruwa, Jalingo metropolis.
As of the time of press, the police spokesperson could not provide the exact number of casualties. However, an anti-bomb squad has been dispatched to the area to assess the extent of the damages caused by the explosion.
A correspondent from Daily Post visited the scene and reported that security operatives have cordoned off the affected areas.
The explosion, which occurred around 9 pm, resulted in several individuals sustaining various degrees of injuries. Most of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jalingo.
An eyewitness, Peace Danjuma, disclosed that she and others were at a local joint called Jika when an explosion took place beneath the chair they were sitting on. She expressed shock at the suddenness of the incident and vowed to avoid such establishments in the future if her friend recovers from the injuries sustained.
Authorities have yet to release the official count of casualties at the time of reporting. However, the State Police Command has assured that they will provide further information as soon as more details become available.
